At Rising Star Dance Academy, our unique team approach to teaching gives students the added benefit of two instructors in the classroom, so students receive more individual attention and class ratios are 1:5 for younger students and 1:8 for older students.
These smaller class sizes, which range from 10-16 students depending upon age, offer a fun and interactive learning environment, where dancers can develop their skills and love of dance.
Our curriculum is designed for the different stages of your child's development and allows them to progress each year in the areas of movement elements, choreographic principles, and most importantly self-expression. Our curriculum is multifaceted focusing on developing both the dancer and their dance skills.
At Rising Star we understand that parents are not looking for a one-size-fits-all type of dance program. That is why we have several different options to choose from that will fit the needs and development of your child—whether they want to enjoy a weekly recreational class or pursue competitive dance and other performance based programs.
We are the only studio in the area with Rhythm Works certified instructors to teach those students with special needs.
Rising Star has been voted the Best Dance Studio in the area from 2012-2024 by the reader's of the Carver County Living Magazine. We've also received the Studio of Excellence Award from the Association of Dance Conventions and Competitions which is given to a studio of their choice that best exemplifies the values of the ADCC, which include working together and striving for excellence.
Families love Rising Star because they can rest assured that their child will be dancing to age appropriate music with clean lyrics. Costumes are modest and alterations are always included.
We believe that communication is key and we do this in several different ways. Our classes are scheduled with breaks in between, so you can talk to the instructor and get your questions answered right away, and our monthly newsletter and website keeps you up to date on holidays, special events and other important information. Our studio app makes finding the info you need from bad weather closings to making online payments easy, even on the go.
With large viewing windows in each studio, you can sit and observe classes whenever you would like without disturbing the class. Parents like knowing exactly what we are working on in class, so they can help their child at home and can see how their child is progressing each week. We also provide videos of the recital dances for easy at home practice!
We've restructured our programs to give our students an additional opportunity to perform throughout the year. We have a Holiday Showcase performance and a Spring Dance Recital. The showcase gives students an opportunity to perform on stage mid season. For the recital, our competitive and performance teams will perform in all the shows. Our recreational classes perform in only one recital show allowing us to keep the performances to 75-90 minutes, making it enjoyable for everyone to watch.
Each year we have a theme and beautifully staged show. Parents and guests rave about our low stress, professional and highly organized recitals.
At Rising Star we believe in giving back to our students and communities. Over the years we have collected shoes for Haiti, donated dance shoes to various organizations and we raised over $2,000 for the Waconia Food Shelf by putting on a community performance. We've been recognized by the Governor for our charitable contributions.
Each year we do community performances at a variety of venues including community festivals, fundraisers, schools and other events. If you are interested in having us perform at your event, please contact the Director, Maryann Porter.
